Courage and Renewal Retreats

Courage and Renewal retreats

In these retreats a quiet, focused, and disciplined space is created—a circle of trust—in which the noise within us and around us can subside and we can begin to hear our own inner voice. In the large group, small groups, and solitary settings, we will explore the intersection of our personal and professional lives, making use of stories from our own journeys and insights, from poets, storytellers, and various wisdom traditions. Each retreat includes a Clearness Committee where you learn to listen deeply and ask insightful “open and honest” questions.

Those of us engaged in organisational leadership, professional or voluntary community service, and social change know the challenge of sustaining ourselves and our commitment to deeply held values and beliefs. The more passionate we are about our work, the more vital it is that we take time to renew our own spirits—to reconnect with the wellsprings of our service to others.   Courage and Renewal retreats are unique opportunities to align your inner truth with your outer life. We help you reconnect who you are with what you do and:

  • Gain greater access to your inner wisdom and a new depth of self-knowledge;
  • Discover a process for discernment to reach clarity around life and career transitions;
  • Reclaim authentic leadership that honours your gifts and limits;
  • Resolve to live closer to your core commitments;
  • Learn healthy ways to hold the tensions inherent in a life of service.

These retreats draw on the ideas and writings of Parker J. Palmer, a leading American Educationalist and Quaker, who has written extensively on the dynamic interrelationship between the inner life and the way in which we influence the world creatively and compassionately. To get more of a sense of this work, Parker J. Palmer outlines the principles and processes of his retreat style in his book ‘A Hidden Wholeness – The Journey Toward An Undivided Life’. His other books include “Let Your Life Speak”, “Healing the Heart of Democracy”, “The Promise of Paradox”, “Courage to Teach” among others.
